My name is Jayne and I am so excited that you are here! It is always a joy to meet new people and to enrich the lives of others by teaching and making music with them. My studio is a place where all can experience the beauty of learning music in a safe and encouraging environment. I enjoy making music fun and engaging and also to get you to think about music independently because as a teacher I want to foster lifelong love of music and not just scales and arpeggios. I believe in creating an environment that is full of positive feedback that leads to confidence and appreciation to this wonderful art that transcends time. I have also been certified in Safe Spaces and Virtus. I believe that the safety of my students is top priority.

I grew up surrounded by music, whether it was on the radio, watching tv specials on PBS, in school, or in private lessons. I immersed myself in all things music as soon as I was able to begin auditioning for honor choirs, festivals, and community functions. I did everything from All-state choir to being a part of a national touring choir in high school. I received my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education for Hastings College in Hastings, NE and my Master of Arts in Music Education at Teacher’s College, Columbia University in New York City. While earning my masters, I participating in an A’capella group, sang in a band, taught lessons, and was a T.A for the vocal and choral pedagogy classes. I still take lessons and perform as a professional, because music is a lifelong journey that I can experience and explore for the rest of my life.

I started teaching lessons when I was 22 years old and have been doing so ever since. One-on-one instruction has been my passion and joy and nothing can compare to the growth students achieve when they are guided along their own individual path. To see a student light up with confidence in their own talent warms my heart. You can’t get that kind of attention and progress in a classroom!

I believe in a holistic approach in which you choose the path of learning and I will guide you as you explore and expand your knowledge, skills, and appreciation of music. Do expect to do some things that are out of the box. There will be times that conventional methods don’t work and we have to try something a little more creative. We will build your ideal learning environment together to give you the best opportunity for success in reaching your musical goals.

This blog is a space for you to get to know me and read first hand the experiences my students and I are having together.
